Sports Premium and PE

Our School’s Vision For P.E.

Achieving excellence and enjoyment through high quality, inclusive practice where all pupils are motivated and inspired to achieve a healthy and active lifestyle

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that Physical Education is a vital part of the curriculum as it not only promotes a healthy and active lifestyle but teaches the key values of teamwork, honesty, self-belief, passion, determination, and respect.

As well as Physical Education in curriculum time, St Joseph’s also take part in many sporting events with other schools in the local area. These include: football, hockey, athletics, (indoor and outdoor), gymnastics, netball and cricket

We aim to:

  • Promote a healthy lifestyle
  • Encourage a love of physical activity
  • Develop good sportsmanship and leadership skills.
  • Develop skills in dance, gymnastics, outside sports and swimming which are statutory elements of the Primary Curriculum.

PE lessons

The majority of children at St Joseph’s participate in at least 2 hours of PE a week.  PE lessons are taught by class teachers or our specialist PE Mentor. Sometimes we welcome external coaches from the FA Skills Programme who teach alongside our staff team.

KS2 children travel to the Spiceball swimming pool and are taught to swim by a qualified swimming instructors and trained staff. This is on a rota basis.

In the Summer Term all children participate in the Record Breakers scheme in Athletics whereby their jumps, throws and runs are recorded with awards presented to those leading the records.

PE Kit at St Joseph’s

It is important that your child has the correct and appropriate kit for PE.  Inside PE kit includes a white t-shirt, navy shorts and plimsolls. For outside PE in colder conditions children should wear navy tracksuit bottoms, a white tshirt, a navy sweatshirt or hoodie and sensible trainers

PE and Sports Funding

Schools continue to receive additional annual funding to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.  The funding is used to impact on the current children in the school and is also deeply embedded and sustainable for future cohorts.

Our current Sports Premium Funding document is attached below.

Sports Clubs and Competitions

We have a range of sports club at St Joseph’s running at lunch time and after school. Over the course of the year these include multi-skills, dance, fencing, netball, girl’s football and hockey.

We participate in many competitions and sporting events throughout the year including athletics, cricket, netball, and rounders tournaments and sports festivals for multi-skills, quick sticks and football.

Over the past couple of years, we have been successful in many of the competitions we have entered! Recent achievements include winning the BGN Cluster Sportshall Athletics Competition and 3rd place in the Banbury Area High 5 Netball Competition.
